Interior painting in Otsego, done with real prep

Interior painting in Otsego usually starts with a house that was built during the growth years and still has its original finishes: builder flat paint that marks the first time you wipe it, oak or maple cabinets that read dated, and ceilings with a crack or two along the drywall seams. Steve Greene Painting fixes that the slow way. Walls get patched and sanded before a roller touches them, cabinets get deglossed, primed and spray enameled, and ceiling cracks get taped and re-textured instead of painted over. We're based upriver in Rockford, rated 5 stars on Google, and the estimate is free.

Otsego sits on the south bank of the Mississippi, across from Elk River, with the Crow River along its east side. Most of its neighborhoods filled in along Highway 101 and the I-94 corridor, which means a lot of homes from the same handful of builders with the same finish problems: thin wall paint, factory-finished cabinets that won't hold paint without the right primer, and two-story foyers nobody has repainted because the ladder work is a hassle. Those are the jobs we take on here. Rockford is on the same Crow River, so getting out to Otsego for an estimate is not a special trip.

What Otsego Homes Usually Need

01

Cabinet Enamel

Factory-finished maple and oak cabinets are common in Otsego kitchens. They need a bonding primer before enamel or the paint lifts at the edges within a year. We degloss, prime, and spray so the finish cures hard and smooth.

02

Wall and Ceiling Painting

Builder flat paint scuffs easily. We patch nail pops and seam cracks, then repaint in a washable finish so hallways and kids' rooms clean up without leaving shiny spots.

03

Two-Story Foyers and Great Rooms

Tall walls and vaulted ceilings are where cut lines go wavy and lap marks show. We take the time to cut a straight ceiling line at full height instead of rolling close and hoping.

04

Trim Enamel

Builder trim is often primed MDF with one quick coat. A proper enamel coat on baseboards, casings and stair parts makes the whole house look finished.

05

Water-Damaged Ceiling Restoration

An ice dam or a bathroom leak leaves a brown ring that bleeds through ordinary paint. We seal the stain, repair the drywall, and match the texture before the ceiling is repainted.

How It Works

From Estimate to Final Walk-Through

No handoffs and no surprise scope changes. Here's how a Otsego job runs.

  1. 01

    Free In-Person Estimate

Steve looks at the actual surfaces in your Otsego home, points out anything that will affect the finish, and gives you a clear scope before you commit.

  2. 02

    Prep, Then Paint

Patching, sanding, cleaning and priming come first. Floors and furniture get covered, and anything not being painted gets masked.

  3. 03

    Walk-Through and Cleanup

We clean up, then walk the finished work with you in good light. If something isn't right, it gets fixed before we leave.

A Newer House Still Needs Real Prep

A newer home doesn't need less prep, it needs different prep. Factory cabinet finishes, MDF trim, and builder flat paint all reject a new coat if they aren't cleaned and primed for what they are. That's the part of the job most crews rush, and it's the part we spend the most time on. One of our Google reviewers had 4,400 square feet painted while they were on vacation, including drywall flaws Steve pointed out during the estimate that they had never noticed. That's the standard we bring to Otsego.

Steve + Team did a phenomenal job painting all 4400 sq ft interior painting while we were on vacation for a week, even finishing the job early! They fixed drywall errors (of which I was oblivious prior to him pointing out the flaws in the initial quote), touched up the enamel/molding, and did a beautiful job beyond our expectations even cleaning up so well after themselves. We were beyond impressed and would absolutely hire them again and recommend others do the same!

On my main level, Steve painted my oak kitchen cabinets, fixed my ceiling and then resprayed the entire ceiling. I added on to the project and had the downstairs painted. Steve and his team did a great job. I was impressed with the responsiveness and attention to detail. I couldn’t be happier with the results and would definitely recommend!

Our wooden window sills/frames needed some repair, and we hired Steve and his team to re-stain and varnish all the window frames in our house. I can't believe the difference. Many of them were faded and some looked like the wood was starting to rot. After Steve and his team were here, they look completely different. They did a great job, and I would definitely hire them again. Steve is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain his process.

We hired Steve to white enamel our main level cabinets, molding and stairwell which initially were oak. The finished product was beautiful and he did such an exceptional job that we additionally had him paint our ceiling and walls. Steve is extremely knowledgeable, reliable and easy to work with. He is committed to providing high quality services at reasonable costs. We will definitely be using him again for future projects!

Frequently asked questions

Do you work in Otsego, MN?
Yes. Otsego is close to home for us. We're based in Rockford and work throughout Otsego, Elk River, St. Michael and Albertville. Steve does every estimate in person, because a photo doesn't show prep problems like seam cracks or failing trim paint.
Can you paint factory-finished cabinets in a newer Otsego home?
Yes, and it's one of the most common cabinet jobs in newer Otsego kitchens. Factory finishes are slick and hard, so the cabinets get cleaned, scuff sanded, and primed with a bonding primer before the enamel goes on. Skipping that step is why painted cabinets peel at the door edges. Our cabinet enamel page covers the full process.
Why does the paint in my Otsego home scuff so easily?
Many newer homes were finished with a flat builder-grade paint. It covers well and is easy for a builder to touch up, but it doesn't hold up to wiping. Repainting in an eggshell or satin finish with a better product fixes it. We patch and sand first so the new sheen doesn't highlight old nail pops.
Can you fix cracks along the drywall seams on my ceiling?
Yes. Seam cracks and nail pops are common as a newer house settles through a few Minnesota winters. We tape and mud the cracks, match the texture to the rest of the ceiling, and then paint the whole ceiling so the repair doesn't show. Water stains get a stain-blocking primer first, as described on our water-damaged ceiling restoration page.
How do I get a price for my Otsego project?
Call (763) 228-5544 or send the estimate form. Every job is priced after Steve sees it, because cabinet count, door style, and the condition of the existing finish change the scope more than square footage does.
