Elk River interior painting for older and newer homes

If you need interior painting in Elk River, the first question is what kind of house you have, because the town has both kinds. Older homes near downtown and the river have original wood trim, older ceilings, and window frames that have been varnished a few times over. Neighborhoods built since the 1990s have builder paint and oak cabinets. Steve Greene Painting works on both, and we prep each one for what it is before any finish goes on. We're rated 5 stars on Google and the estimate is free.

Elk River is the Sherburne County seat, where the Elk River meets the Mississippi and Highways 10 and 169 come together. It's the northeast corner of the area we serve. The work we're set up for here falls into three groups: oak cabinets the owners want painted, trim and window frames that have faded or been painted badly, and ceilings with old water stains from ice dams. Those three are the core of what we do.

Interior Work for Elk River Homes

01

Stain and Varnish Work

Original wood trim in older Elk River homes is often worth saving. We clean, repair and re-coat it rather than paint over grain that can't be brought back once it's covered.

02

Window Frame Staining

Sun-faded window frames and sills get sanded, re-stained and varnished. One of our Google reviewers had every window frame in the house redone and could hardly believe the difference.

03

Cabinet Enamel

Oak cabinets from the 1990s and 2000s converted to a sprayed enamel finish, with the grain filled where you want a smooth modern look.

04

Water-Damaged Ceiling Restoration

Ice dams are a fact of life in Sherburne County winters. We seal the stain, repair the damage, match the texture and repaint the whole ceiling.

05

Popcorn Texture Removal

Popcorn ceilings in older homes get tested where needed, wetted, scraped and smoothed so they're ready for a clean coat.

How It Works

From Estimate to Final Walk-Through

No handoffs and no surprise scope changes. Here's how a Elk River job runs.

  1. 01

    Free In-Person Estimate

Steve looks at the actual surfaces in your Elk River home, points out anything that will affect the finish, and gives you a clear scope before you commit.

  2. 02

    Prep, Then Paint

Patching, sanding, cleaning and priming come first. Floors and furniture get covered, and anything not being painted gets masked.

  3. 03

    Walk-Through and Cleanup

We clean up, then walk the finished work with you in good light. If something isn't right, it gets fixed before we leave.

Paint or Preserve? We'll Tell You Honestly

Not every piece of wood trim should be painted. In an older Elk River house, solid wood casings and stair parts with a good stain are often better refinished than enameled, and once painted they're very hard to bring back. In a newer house with finger-jointed pine or MDF trim, enamel is the right call. Steve will tell you which is which during the estimate. If it's worth saving, we'll say so, and if paint is the better choice, we'll explain why.

Steve + Team did a phenomenal job painting all 4400 sq ft interior painting while we were on vacation for a week, even finishing the job early! They fixed drywall errors (of which I was oblivious prior to him pointing out the flaws in the initial quote), touched up the enamel/molding, and did a beautiful job beyond our expectations even cleaning up so well after themselves. We were beyond impressed and would absolutely hire them again and recommend others do the same!

On my main level, Steve painted my oak kitchen cabinets, fixed my ceiling and then resprayed the entire ceiling. I added on to the project and had the downstairs painted. Steve and his team did a great job. I was impressed with the responsiveness and attention to detail. I couldn’t be happier with the results and would definitely recommend!

Our wooden window sills/frames needed some repair, and we hired Steve and his team to re-stain and varnish all the window frames in our house. I can't believe the difference. Many of them were faded and some looked like the wood was starting to rot. After Steve and his team were here, they look completely different. They did a great job, and I would definitely hire them again. Steve is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain his process.

We hired Steve to white enamel our main level cabinets, molding and stairwell which initially were oak. The finished product was beautiful and he did such an exceptional job that we additionally had him paint our ceiling and walls. Steve is extremely knowledgeable, reliable and easy to work with. He is committed to providing high quality services at reasonable costs. We will definitely be using him again for future projects!

Frequently asked questions

Do you serve Elk River, MN?
Yes. Elk River is the northeast corner of our service area, which runs from Big Lake and Elk River down through the Highway 55 towns to the western suburbs. Steve does every estimate in person.
Should I paint or refinish the original wood trim in my older Elk River home?
It depends on the wood and its condition. Solid wood with a sound finish is usually worth cleaning and re-coating, because paint is very hard to strip back off. Trim that's damaged, mismatched, or already painted is a better fit for trim enamel. We'll look at it with you and tell you what we'd do in our own house.
Can you restore faded window frames instead of replacing them?
Usually, yes. Faded and weathered interior window frames and sills can be sanded, re-stained and varnished to look close to new. If there's rot, we'll show you where it is so you can decide whether to repair or replace. Our window frame staining page walks through the process.
My ceiling has a brown stain from an ice dam. Will paint cover it?
Not on its own. Water stains bleed through standard ceiling paint. Once the roof is fixed, the stain gets sealed with a stain-blocking primer, damaged drywall gets repaired, the texture gets matched, and the whole ceiling is repainted so there's no visible patch.
How do I get an estimate in Elk River?
Call (763) 228-5544 or send the estimate form. Steve will set a time to see the house, and you'll get a clear scope before any work is scheduled.
