Golden Valley's housing stock runs heavily toward mid-century ramblers and split-levels, many with original woodwork and ceilings that haven't been touched since they were built. That's exactly the kind of work Steve handles well. Operating out of Rockford and serving the western Twin Cities corridor, Steve and his team are in Golden Valley regularly. The homes here aren't cookie-cutter, and the finish work shouldn't be either. Neighbors in St. Louis Park and Plymouth already know the work. Golden Valley is a natural fit.

What Golden Valley homes actually need

A lot of Golden Valley homes were built between the 1950s and 1980s. Oak cabinets, popcorn ceilings, original trim, windows that have been repainted over and over until the wood is buried under a half-inch of latex. These aren't cosmetic problems you roll over in an afternoon. Cabinet enamel requires proper deglossing, priming, and spray application to get a finish that doesn't show brush marks or peel in two years. Popcorn texture removal and water-damaged ceiling restoration require real assessment before any paint goes on. Steve's been doing this work long enough to know what skipping those steps costs you.

Steve + Team did a phenomenal job painting all 4400 sq ft interior painting while we were on vacation for a week, even finishing the job early! They fixed drywall errors (of which I was oblivious prior to him pointing out the flaws in the initial quote), touched up the enamel/molding, and did a beautiful job beyond our expectations even cleaning up so well after themselves. We were beyond impressed and would absolutely hire them again and recommend others do the same!

On my main level, Steve painted my oak kitchen cabinets, fixed my ceiling and then resprayed the entire ceiling. I added on to the project and had the downstairs painted. Steve and his team did a great job. I was impressed with the responsiveness and attention to detail. I couldn’t be happier with the results and would definitely recommend!

Our wooden window sills/frames needed some repair, and we hired Steve and his team to re-stain and varnish all the window frames in our house. I can't believe the difference. Many of them were faded and some looked like the wood was starting to rot. After Steve and his team were here, they look completely different. They did a great job, and I would definitely hire them again. Steve is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain his process.

We hired Steve to white enamel our main level cabinets, molding and stairwell which initially were oak. The finished product was beautiful and he did such an exceptional job that we additionally had him paint our ceiling and walls. Steve is extremely knowledgeable, reliable and easy to work with. He is committed to providing high quality services at reasonable costs. We will definitely be using him again for future projects!

Frequently asked questions

Do you paint oak kitchen cabinets in Golden Valley homes?
Yes, and it's one of the most common projects in Golden Valley's older housing stock. Many homes here were built with oak cabinetry that hasn't been touched in decades. Steve's process starts with proper deglossing and priming before any enamel goes on. Spray application gives you a finish that looks factory-done rather than brushed on. The result holds up to daily use in a way that a rolled or brushed-on topcoat usually doesn't. Every job gets evaluated individually before any quote is given.
Can you repair a water-stained ceiling in a Golden Valley home before painting it?
That's a separate step, not something to skip over with a coat of paint. Water stains bleed through regular paint no matter how many coats you apply. The process starts with identifying whether the source is resolved, then applying a stain-blocking primer rated for the severity of the damage, matching the surrounding texture if needed, and finishing with ceiling paint. Golden Valley homes with older roofing or plumbing are common candidates for this work. Get it assessed before you assume a paint job is enough.
How far is Steve Greene Painting from Golden Valley, and how quickly can you schedule?
Steve operates out of Rockford, roughly 30 miles west of Golden Valley, and works in the western Twin Cities metro on a regular basis. Golden Valley sits right in that service corridor. Response time on estimate requests is typically within one business day. Steve works seven days a week, so scheduling a walkthrough is usually faster than most homeowners expect. If you call in the morning, you'll have an answer the same day.
What does trim enamel work involve for a Golden Valley mid-century home?
Mid-century homes in Golden Valley often have original wood trim that's been repainted multiple times. Before any enamel goes on, surfaces need to be cleaned, lightly sanded, and primed correctly for the finish coat to adhere properly. Steve handles baseboards, door casings, window casings, and architectural molding. The cut-in work along edges is done by hand, not taped and hoped for. If the trim has been painted so many times it's lost its crisp profile, that's worth discussing during the estimate walkthrough.
Can you remove popcorn ceiling texture in a Golden Valley house?
Yes. Popcorn texture removal is a common job in Golden Valley homes built before 1990. The process involves moistening and scraping the existing texture, skimming or sanding the surface smooth, and then finishing with ceiling paint. Homes built before 1978 may contain asbestos in the texture material, which requires testing before any scraping starts. That's a step Steve will flag during the estimate. Once removed and painted, a smooth ceiling changes how the whole room reads. It's one of the better returns on an interior improvement in an older home.
Do you handle woodwork staining and window frame re-staining in Golden Valley?
Window frame and woodwork staining is a specialty, not an add-on. Many Golden Valley homes have original wood window frames that have faded or started to deteriorate from moisture exposure. Steve's team strips old finish, repairs any surface damage, re-stains to match or refresh the original tone, and applies varnish for protection. One reviewer noted their frames looked like new wood after the job was done. It's not glamorous work, but it's the kind of thing that makes the rest of the interior look intentional.
